Visual impact. The 10 proposed turbines will each be one and half times higher than the Boston Stump which will affect the landscape and our view of the open countryside.

Health Issues. Stress, sleep deprivation, headaches, and high blood pressure. Anxiety, tinnitus and depression are some of the known health effects upon people 300m to 3 miles away from the turbines.

House Values. Values typically drop by 20-25% at the proposal stage and can affect properties up to 4 miles away. If you fail to inform a buyer of your property about this proposal you can be made to pay compensation.

The drop in value is substantially more once planning is approved and the wind farm is constructed. Horses/ Animals. Birds and bats are killed by wind turbines. Bats are injured by the air pressure built by the blades, see BBC article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7581990.stm A scientific study in Alberta Canada has found that bays are killed, not by impact with the turbine blades, but by barotrauma – physical damage caused by sudden decompression. see: http://www.windaction.org/news/17630

The German Olympic team had to relocate its stables due the effect of the turbine noise on its team of horses. They cannot be trained and hacking has become dangerous. This may well also affect the small herd of deer frequently seen between Sibsey and The Hobhole and other wildlife.

Safety. There have been many recorded incidents throughout the world involving turbine fires, shedding of blades, ice thrown from the blades, and vehicle drivers distracted.

Noise. The audible noise causes a swish and thump sound. Current noise levels are 5 to 15 dBa on the Hobhole bank, dependent on wind and traffic. The turbines are allowed to emit 35dBa during the day and 38dBa at night. The most serious type of noise is from inaudible vibrations, which travel through the body causing many physical and psychological problems.

TV Interference. Wind turbines can interfere with the telecommunications signals including television. Uniquely this may “chop” the signal causing ghosting or jittering on the picture


Efficiency. Turbines are less than 25% efficient, and need another power supply when they are unable to produce enough power, i.e. when it’s too windy or not windy enough.

Intuitively it would seem logical that if enough wind farms are built then it must be possible to shut down some coal or gas fired power stations and save carbon dioxide. But that is not the case.

In a House of Lords Select Committee Inquiry into the EU’s 20% Renewable Energy Target on Monday 17th March 2008, Mr Christopher Barton (Director of the UK Renewable Energy Strategy Project at BERR) said, ‘the intermittency issue is not an insurmountable problem, albeit that surmounting the problem comes with a cost so, for example, there will need to be greater overall generating capacity in the uk as you introduce more intermitent generation.’ See:http://www.wind-watch.org/alerts/2008/06/10/wind-farms-and-carbon-dioxide-savings/

Future Developments. If this proposal gains planning permission this could be the first of many developments, as many more landowners want to profit from these developments. There will also need to be a lot more pylons to carry the power to main power stations.
